Where is a Patent registered?

Each country has its own inter-governmental organization to grant a patent.

In India, the India Patent Office (IPO) grants a patent registration. In order to get the Patent Registration in India, a specific procedure provided in the Patents Act, 1970 and The Patents Rules, 2003 needs to be followed. 

The IPO has branch offices in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai. The appropriate jurisdiction for Patent filing under said branch offices is normally decided based on the Applicant’s residential address. 

The entire filing process can be completed online, so long as the process is done by a registered patent agent approved by the IPO through their patent e-filing account.
