Patent applications are generally published 18 months after they are filed. At that point, they are available for the public to search and view even if no patent has yet been granted.

Patent information is made available to the public through a variety of databases, both national and international. Many national and regional patent offices provide free online access to their own patent collections as well as to selected patent documents from other offices.

If you want to start by just looking at some patent applications, you can try experimenting with keywords at https://patents.google.com/
