Patented inventions are unique and innovative by definition, and they have a number of diverse functions. For example, did you know about the invention that can help optimize energy efficiency for Air Conditioning Units in ATMs?
Read this IP Conversation to find out!”
Hey IP Geek.
Have you noticed how the Air Conditioning in ATMs are always on? I feel like they consume a lot of power and I wonder if there‘s any way to reduce the load?
Well, ATM machines contain a lot of heat-generating parts, and they need to be cooled constantly to increase their lifespans. In countries as hot as India, this is particularly important.
This is why the ACs in ATM kiosks are always on. In fact, you’ll often see two ACs which work in turns in one kiosk- this helps the ACs extend their lifespan too. Overall, the energy usage can get pretty high.
A recently granted Indian patent actually tackles this problem. This is a software and electronic patent which monitors and controls the temperature in an ATM kiosk by switching the ACs on and off automatically.
This can help reduce power consumption by, for example, turning off the ACs for long points at night, when fewer people mean less heat is generated by the machine and by humans.
I see- I always like hearing about patents that promote energy efficiency.
Thanks for letting me know about this, IP Geek!
